The works in the exhibition were all created over the past year and feature oil paint on black-and-white photographs, while the motifs often hark back to the artist’s first encounter with the photographic image and work in the darkroom. Erik Steffensen has been working with analogue photography in his own darkroom since 1977. There is a huge range of motifs, including nearby Søndermarken, Frederiksberg and Copenhagen Zoo, road trips in the United States, Zen gardens in Japan and treks with views of the highest peaks of the Himalayas. In this exhibition, the artist comes full circle – back to the forests and parks of his homeland – but without losing a sense of their context in the big wide world.
