Orsolya Bagala, Emily Gernild, Mie Mørkeberg, Krista Rosenkilde, Birgitte Støvring, Ida Sønder Thorhauge and Maria Wæhrens are all recognised and significant artists who are making a mark on the art scene, both in Denmark and internationally. Their work reflects, in diverse ways, themes of gender, myth, beauty, disgust, sensuality, intuition and power – expressed with a vitality and sensitivity that expands our understanding of painting.

This exhibition presents a selection of contemporary Danish painting by women who, in different ways, take their point of departure in personal narratives and experiences. They invite the viewer into unfamiliar realms and insist that the deeply personal always contains something universal. They do so by unabashedly embracing painting as a medium – with all its meanings and traditions.
