Tal R is part of the anniversary exhibition Når vi døde vågner (When We Dead Awaken) at Gammel Strand, marking the institution’s 200th year. The exhibition traces art history as it has unfolded at Gammel Strand from 1825 to 2025 – from Golden Age painting to contemporary art.

Bringing together works by artists such as C.W. Eckersberg, Chris Cunningham, and Tal R, the show creates imaginative encounters across generations. Visitors are invited to experience both the weight of tradition and the urgency of contemporary practice in a vivid dialogue.

The title refers both to Henrik Ibsen’s final play and to Gammel Strand’s 1998 exhibition on Edvard Munch, underlining how art, its institutions, and society remain in constant motion
