16 Gobelins on Their Way to Koldinghus
To mark the 750th anniversary of Koldinghus in 2018, one of the largest decorative art commissions in Danish history was launched: 16 new gobelins created by contemporary artists Kirstine Roepstorff, Bjørn Nørgaard, Tal R, and Alexander Tovborg. Each artist interpreted a theme rooted in the castle’s history—Border Fortress, Royal Castle, Ruin, and Reconstruction.
The gobelins are being handwoven at prestigious French workshops and will first be exhibited in Paris in 2025.
The Gobelins are on view at Grand Palais until 17 August 2025
In 2028, they will be permanently installed in the Dance Hall and Knight’s Hall at Koldinghus, helping to restore the original architectural connection between the rooms. The project is made possible by a generous donation from the New Carlsberg Foundation and is co-produced by Grand Palais Rmn, the Royal Danish Collection, and Mobilier National.
