A K Dolven’s wide-ranging conceptual practice encompasses painting, photography, film, video, installation, sound, performance, site-specific works and collaborations. Visually spare, the imagery in her work is often saturated by the distinctive light of the northern hemisphere, featuring minimalistic watery or frozen landscapes. ‘My work circles around how to find balance in life’, she has stated. Horizons and viewpoints seem intermingled, as she shifts the opposing lines between earth and sky, shadow and light. Dolven experiments with the intimacy of perception such as vision and sound, though at times it is muted. The body appears as a nude within natural settings, and through physical impressions captured in snow or ritualistic hand traces and fingerprints in paintings. Interpersonal relations and interactions are central to her practice, and many of her performance-based works involve participants.
