Georg Baselitz | ||||
| ||||
| As a painter and sculptor Georg Baselitz (born 1938) is part of the same generation of artist as Markus Lüpertz and Jörg Immendorff who from the beginning of the 60’es worked their way towards a new German way of painting, as they were facing the paradox in how it was possible to create art with the consciousness of the terrors of Holocaust. Since the end of the sixties Baselitz has almost consequently painted his images upside-down, to free the motif from its lexical subject. Furthermore, his works are characterized by a strong expressive, almost physical expression. The work of Baselitz has been shown in various solo exhibitions worldwide, most recently at Kunsthalle Bonn (2004) and Louisiana; Denmark (2006). His work is represented in many great art collections, such as MOMA and Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, as well as Tate Modern, London. |
